From ancient castles and elegant gardens to palatial villas and palazzos Sicily is an island which offers an extensive choice of beautiful places for your wedding.

On the northern coast the capital Palermo is a busy and vibrant city with a distinct mix of cultural influences. However if you prefer the charm of a smaller town nearby Cefalù has the beauty of sandy beaches and sea views together with a quaint yet enchanting medieval centre.
Taormina, on the eastern coast of the island, has a romantic and intimate atmosphere. Its ancient squares and terraces, narrow streets and passages as well as an excellent selection of restaurants and bars, make it absolutely perfect as a wedding destination. What's more, its crystal clear waters, islands and beaches provide the perfect scenic backdrop to your wedding celebration.

With its breathtaking views Ragusa is one of the most picturesque hill top towns on the island and nearby Siracusa with its centre on the island of Ortigia and Noto are both examples of Baroque style. On the southern coast there is the ancient city of Agrigento overlooking the sea with its impressive Greek temples and buildings.

Finally the Aeolian Islands, a group of seven small inhabited Italian islands off the northern coast of Sicily, offer something a little different for your wedding celebration. From the dramatic volcanic scenery of Vulcano and Stromboli to the more laid-back beauty of Panarea and Salina each island has a unique and individual landscape.

Sicily is the largest of the Italian islands. Its geographical position, surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Ionian, Tyrrhenian and Mediterranean seas, offers a fantastic blend of culture and history.

Sicily's charm and character lie in its diversity. Each season offers visitors a different view of the island. Three thousand years of history is reflected in diverse architecture, unique landscapes and a truly vast choice of dishes and flavours – all celebrated as essential qualities of life in Sicily.

Spring arrives early, covering the island with wild flowers and greenery. The spectacular snow-covered slopes of Mount Etna contrast with this rich blanket of colour, providing breath-taking views. With beautifully clear days and mild temperatures, this is the perfect destination wedding season.

The coming of summer changes the scene. The arrival of hot weather begins to fill the island's beaches with tourists and Sicilians alike. This is also one of the harvest periods for Sicily's famous citrus fruits and of the grapes used in some of the island's most famous wines.

Autumn and winter are perfect seasons for sightseeing and travelling around the island. The temperature is generally cooler and the weather less predictable. But there are fewer visitors during these months, which means it is easier to see and enjoy the more popular attractions and towns. The island has a magical atmosphere all of its own during this period of the year and, as an alternative to a summer celebration, you could consider a Christmas wedding.

Weather and Climate

Sicily's mild climate means that, with spring starting early in March and warm days lasting well into November, there is a good chance that your wedding day will take place in the sun. The best period to consider for a wedding is from May to September with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s. The summer (July, August) is very hot in Sicily with very little rain. Its position on the same latitude as North Africa means that temperatures can reach the high 30s and, while the heat is dry, it can still prove uncomfortable at times, even for the Sicilians. Autumn and winter are still mild, if cooler, with temperatures generally ranging between 8 degrees to a pleasant high of around 20.

Airports and Transportation

Sicily has two main airports Falcone e Borsellino airport in the north of the Island, also known as Punta Raisi at Palermo (www.gesap.it) and Fontanarossa at Catania on the east coast (www.aeroporto.catania.it). A third smaller airport Trapani Birgi (www.aeroportotrapani.com) is based between Trapani and Marsala and a fourth at Comiso (www.aeroportodicomiso.eu) is 15 Km from Ragusa.

Due to its position the majority of international flights to Sicily connect via one of the larger mainland airports such as Rome or Milan although direct flights can be found from some locations.
